The Lynchburg Tea Party is pleased to announce the next meeting to be held on Thursday, March 4, 2010 in Lynchburg, VA at Monte Carlo Restaurant at 7pm, and will feature a special guest speaker, former Virginia 5th district Congressman Virgil Goode.

Congressman Goode comes to the Tea Party meeting to speak about the federal budget, debt, and deficit. Goode will also be fielding questions from the group. Many tea party patriots have a great deal of passion and desire to become more fully informed about the method and means as to how our federal government recklessly spends taxpayer money, and more importantly, what can be done to stop it. Congressman Goode served and represented the 5th district for 6 terms, from 1997-2008.

“We are grateful to have Congressman Goode speak to our group, and appreciative for the information he can provide us. He faces a tough crowd, and will likely face difficult questions, but I anticipate he will be fully candid in his response to the inquiries of our Tea Party patriots. We’re a tough group!” said Mark Lloyd of the Lynchburg Tea Party.

Goode’s name has been on the lips of 5th district Republicans, Democrats, and Independents since early January when political pundits started speculating about a potential run for the 2010 Congressional race. Goode filed a statement of candidacy in March of 2009, but stated in July of 2009 that he would not seek the Republican nomination. It’s no secret that 5th district Tea Party leaders have talked to Goode about getting into the race, but as to what capacity remains to be seen. There has been a great deal of controversy about the potential for Goode to enter the race, whether it be as a Republican or, more importantly, as an Independent.

”We intend on accessing every option possible to ensure that a candidate enters this race that can not only represent the 5 pillars of Tea Party principles, but also be a candidate that will unite us,” said Dana Hale, Logistics Vice Chair of the Lynchburg Tea Party. “Specifically, we hope to find a candidate that answers to the people, and not to the 5th district Republican establishment.”

At the last meeting the Lynchburg Tea Party leadership spoke on the 5 pillars of the Tea Party movement, which are limited government, fiscal responsibility, free and fair markets, personal liberty based on personal responsibility, and Constitutional governments.

Over 80 people from Lynchburg and surrounding areas met at the Monte Carlo restaurant on Old Forest Road in Lynchburg at the previous meeting held on February 11, 2010. At the previous meeting, the Executive Leadership team and several committees were formed and headed.
