POSITION STATEMENT

The Lynchburg Tea Party is a group of concerned citizens who are not, as a sanctioned “Tea Party” group, affiliated with any political party. All are welcome. Though we come from all walks of life, and may disagree on various issues, below are the key principles we agree upon.

1. Every citizen, regardless of religion, color or ethnic origin has a right and a duty to participate in the governance of the United States of America at all levels whether or not affiliated with a particular party.

2. Control of the candidate selection process by national political parties has led to many feeling disenfranchised and without a voice in the process.

3. Effective governance of the United States of America requires adherence to the principals and laws delineated in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. We support strict adherence to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

4. Government of the individual States and the United States is to be “by the people and for the people.”

5. National Security and Fiscal Responsibility are the hallmarks of responsible governance.

6. The future and prosperity of our Nation and the preservation of the rights of the citizens depends on the preservation of our sovereignty.

7. United we stand, divided we fail.

We, the people of the Lynchburg Tea Party, are dissatisfied with the following:

1. Out of control government spending and bailouts, and entitlement programs that are disincentives to personal responsibility, both of which lead and have led to excessive and punitive taxation.

2. Indebtedness to foreign countries that imperils our sovereignty and national security

3.  Excessive regulation of business.

4.  Pork barrel politics. We support term limits and a line item veto.

GOALS

We, the people of the Lynchburg Tea Party, set as our goal the education of the citizens of the city of Lynchburg and surrounding areas in the election process for the purpose of effecting change in the governance of our surrounding localities, our State and the United States of America.

We intend to motivate citizens to participate in the process of government and, thereby, restore a truly representative government based on the principles of our founding fathers.  We shall…

1. Educate others and ourselves on the Constitution and the election process.

2. Increase our numbers and become a voice for conservative, constitutional values that will no longer be ignored.

3. Remain a non-partisan group that will support effective candidates that stand for our core constitutional values at every step of the election process.  Candidate principles trump partisan politics.

4. Remain autonomous while working with other organizations that support our agenda and core constitutional values.  We will remain activists by participating in rallies, protests and boycotts.

OUR COMMITMENT TO EACH OTHER

Our growth depends on a mutual commitment of respect and understanding. We invite all to participate in the organization. We appreciate everyone’s individual contributions and aspire to create an environment of open debate and transparency. As our numbers grow, we intend to follow Robert’s Rules of Order to run our meetings.
