FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 21,2009

Contact mklloydva@earthlink.net

“Virginia Fifth District Tea Parties Condemn Warner and Webb for Their Votes in the Dark”

Virginia Fifth Congressional District – Senators Webb and Warner apparently have no regard for the best interests of the majority of Virginia voters. Once again, those in elected office assume they “know best” what the citizens of Virginia need. Polls across the nation are showing 60% opposition to the health care legislation in the senate. This bill has not been examined by the public, as promised, and even the CBO is now correcting statements made late last week stating that the legislation is deficit neutral.

Why did our senators vote to rush this bill along toward cloture without public review? It appears senators Webb and Warner are caught up in the liberal stampede to give Barack Obama a “victory” to brag about during the upcoming state of the union speech in January. This is not what they were elected to do. Turning over one sixth of our economy to dozens of new government bureaucracies is simply irresponsible at best, and treason at worst. The costs that will burden yet to be born generations of Americans are unable to be calculated, and until all the questions are answered this legislation should not go to the floor for any final vote.
Nigel Coleman of the Danville Tea Party said ” We have come to expect to be ignored by these people. I wonder what their actual agenda is. They have no concern for what is best for the majority of their constituents.”
“I wonder what Warner and Webb were bought off with for these votes. I am not surprised at anything these people do. They put on a show and then do what they are told. So much for listening to what any of us say,” said Bill Hay, Jefferson Area Tea Party in Charlottesville.
“If this vote in the dark is any indicator of Warner and Webb’s intentions, then Virginians’ interests are simply not being considered, and certainly not represented. Who do these guys work for?” said Mark Lloyd of the Lynchburg Area Tea Party.
